The snow is melting & the warmer weather is beginning to appear in the Scottish Highlands.

Spring in the Highlands is a magical time of the year, the days are longer, the snowdrops are in full bloom, the birds are tweeting & there are signs of new life.

There is so much to do in Spring in the Cairngorms, the UK’s largest national park.

Activities in the Cairngorms

Fishing 

Fish the River Spey, the Spey is famous for it’s Atlantic salmon and sea trout. The fishing season on the Spey runs from the 11th of February until the 30th September each year. The Spey is strictly fly fishing only, if you want a guide for the day we can also help with that. We work closely with Alba Fishing, your guide will be with you all day, can give you a hand if you need it, take photos and share stories.

Water Sports

White water rafting is very popular in the Cairngorms in Spring, after the snow has melted. Raft on parts of the Spey or the River Findhorn. Canoeing is also a very popular sport in the Cairngorms, Canoe on one of the many Lochs in the area. Partake in some Windsurfing, a perfect family activity to get involved in.

Walking or Cycling

There are hundreds of scenic walks to do in the Cairngorms, either go out for a stroll by yourself or get involved in a guided walk with a tour guide. The walks vary in length and difficulty, Walk Highlands provides details of different walks in the National Park.

Cycling is also a very popular sport in the Highlands, bike hire is available also via Mike’s Bikes, who will deliver and collect bikes from Muckrach.

Golf 

Scotland is known for it’s fine golfing, there are over 550 courses to have a go at in Scotland. The Cairngorms has the choice of beautifully kept greens, enjoy 18 or 9 holes of golf. Wildlife Watching

There is an abundance of wildlife in the Cairngorms National Park & is home to many endangered species. Such as; the Red Squirrel, reindeer herd, the Golden eagle, mountain hare, the Scottish wildcat, lapwings & pine martens are just a few.

Whisky 

In the Cairngorms there are many whisky distilleries, including, Dalwhinnie, Glenlivet, Tomintoul, Royal Lochnagar, Balmenach and Speyside Distillery.
