We are lucky enough to welcome a visiting blog from one of our recent customers who spent a snowy weekend with us at Muckrach with 5 of her friends. The snow didn’t stop them from enjoying their time with us. Here is what she had to say about her time. We can’t wait to welcome the 6 back again!
6 women with a love for gin and prosecco are some of the common denominators that bring us together. Friends from Cheshire we were looking for a long weekend to an easy reach destination.
Our weekend began after the school run where we headed to Victors in Hale (well worth a visit!) for lunch. The surroundings were fabulous as was the prosecco that accompanied our lunch! A perfect way to start our Friday! As there are 3 flights a day from Manchester to Inverness we were in no rush. We arrived at the airport for the 17.45 flight. An hour and half later we’re in Inverness airport collecting bags, with the taxi awaiting to take us to Muckrach.
This luxury Scottish Highland accommodation does not disappoint even on first appearances. The hotel has 13 luxury bedrooms and is situated in the Cairngorms National Park. It has been restored from a beautiful Victorian shooting lodge into the luxurious Scottish Highland hotel. As well as a hotel there is a restaurant, offering food all day, which is open to non-residents too. The views were incredible with a castle in the distance.
We were shown to our room, a new self-catering lodge in the grounds, The Dulnain. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner and went to bed ready for a weekend full of activity.
We had pre-booked activities at Rothiemurchus for Saturday; shooting clays and quad trekking. The six of us were taken out by two very respectable gentlemen who were funny, kind and really wanted us to do well. We were split into two groups to add a little friendly competition into the activity. Some of us were a little more competitive than others! Gentle snow fell the whole time making everything so picturesque.
Hot chocolate with the works (to warm up!!! – any excuse) and a selection of homemade bakes met us at The Rothiemurchus visitor centre. We then ventured to the quad trekking (taken to another level by the snow!) through the snow across the Rothiemurcus estate with beautiful scenery. We had so much fun.
We went back to Muckrach for afternoon tea and homemade birthday cake for our birthday girl. After a couple of hours relaxation time, we then embraced Saturday night as if we were in our twenties again. We laughed so much and celebrated our friend’s birthday. Mark, the very attentive General Manager organised dinner to be delivered to The Dulnain too, a perfect touch.
Sunday started with a 6k brisk winter walk around Loch an Eilean, another picturesque part of the Rothiemurcus estate. We got back and enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast. By the time our taxi arrived for our flight back to Manchester we didn’t want to leave. We had a wonderful time and can only thank all the staff and team at Muckrach who made our visit incredibly special! We cannot wait to return for another visit soon!
